Tropical Cattle Brahmans – Stud No.7 - is situated on The Orient, a fertile 16 000 ac coastal property 100km north of Townsville, North Queensland. It is owned by the Joyce Family and runs some 3 000 head of cattle. Included are 300+ stud breeders, the majority of which are grey Brahmans. The balance of 2 700 head is made up of commercial breeders and progeny. While the Red Brahmans genetics are mainly American, the grey stud herd originates predominately from full Hudgins or full American genetics.

Tropical Cattle was established in the early 1940’s with the importation of 12 American grey Brahmans sourced solely from the JD Hudgins ranch. These cattle were only the second importation behind the original 1933 imports. Following the lifting of the forty year ban on importing American cattle in the early 1980’s, Tropical Cattle once again purchased a bull and a number of females from JD Hudgins. These animals were sent to Canada to become donors in an extensive embryo transfer program. The embryos produced from these programs were then shipped to ‘The Orient’ Australia to be successfully implanted. History was made as these frozen embryos were to be the first Brahman embryos imported into Australia.

A commitment to cutting edge genetics, excellence in breeding techniques and attention to detail assures buyers that our cattle are very adaptable to varied conditions. Commercial breeders are guaranteed of being offered herd bulls of the very best beef types available. We are confident that our article will not only survive but thrive in any environment.
