Bogandilla Brahman stud was started in the Early 80s . The first females where purchased from the dispersal sales of Cherokee, Avondale and Whynot Brahman studs. While growing up in Central Queensland we went from a Hereford herd and using Half and Three quarter Brahman bulls until were able to afford Purebred bulls. The benefit to calving increases as well as weights in our weaners was immediate. The first purebred bulls were purchased from Cherokee and Banyak Suka studs.
By the mid 80s we were influenced by the importations of the Indu cattle and we did some embryo transfers at Savanah Brahmans at Moranbah through Vic Deguara. We used McKellar Ricardo and also Tuxpeno. These cattle gave us some scale and great features.
By late 80s the stud was moved to Kirrama station Nth Queensland where we bred our own bulls for our commercial operation. We also purchased females from Tyagarah Brahman stud that gave us some great females.
Today we have a grey herd of 200 registered cows. A bull that has done us great was a bull purchased from the Wilangi sale in 2005 for $25,000. His name is FBC Detroit. This bull was selected by the Brazilians that visited Australia. They were very impressed by this bull. He is by JDH Karu and is a tremendous bull with length and volume. His females are outstanding.
We are currently using two sons by Madison 737 which are giving us a big lift with strong top lines and tidy underlines. These 2 bulls where purchased from David Deguara and family and also from Vic Deguara.
We have just purchased a bull by JDH Echo from Michael Walz from the past Classic sale at Rockhampton. We are very impressed with him and letting him grow out in Central Queensland.
The herd is currently run at Kalinga Station in Cape York. Our aim is to provide bulls bred in some of the harshest conditions in Queensland, utilising the very best genetics that are available in Australia. Visitors are always welcome, bring your fishing line if you are keen on a Barra.
